Places You’ll See

MANDARA HUT (841m↑; 5hrs; 2.720m; +/+/+)

It’s time to meet your group for the next  five days. We will pick you up at your hotel around 9am. The guide will present the whole team with a heartwarming welcome and introduction of porters, the cook and the rest of the team. You will get a nice first impression through typical Tanzanian songs which follow you the whole way up to Uhuru peak. It takes us 2-3 hrs by car (passing a supermarket in the meanwhile) to get to the Marangu Gate (1.879m). Your guide will sign you up and arrange all payments for the National Park. Before starting our trek you will get a lunch box and softdrinks to strengthen yourself for a nice trip. Around 1pm we start our trekking tour – It’s the oldest path up Mount Kilimanjaro and one of the most popular ones. You start within the “Forest Zone” and get a nice glimpse of Tanzanian jungle feelings. Look for towering Eucalyptus trees, birdlife and Colobus monkeys. We include a side trip to the Maundi Crater which is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania as well as Kenya. After 8km and 5hrs of walk you will reach the camp “Mandara Hut” (2.720m) at 6pm. You will get hot water for washing and be prepared for dinner at 7pm. Your guide will give you the briefing for the next day.

 HOROMBO HUT (1.000m↑; 5hrs; 3.720m; +/+/+)

The alarm clock rings at 6.30am and we bring you bed tea to your rooms. Is there a nicer way to wake up than getting tea/coffee onto your bed? Hot water will be available at 7am. Prep yourself and luggage before joining the breakfast at 7.30am. At 8am we’re ready to go. We will leave the camp and follow the ascending path on the open moorlands up to the “Horombo Hut”. Enjoy during the day the view of Kilimanjaro and Mawenzi – those were amazing! You may begin to feel the altitude around 3.000m. Around 2pm we will arrive at the Camp and serve hot lunch at 2.30pm. After lunch you will get hot water for washing and time for resting. Be aware: This is the last camp with water for washing. Dinner will be at 6pm.Your guide will give you the briefing for the next day

KIBO HUT + SUMMIT (1.000m↑; 5hrs; 4.720m; +/+/+)

This day is tough and will demand more from you mentally than physically. But we will not get tired of reminding you at any time: “We are here to make your dream come true!”. We’re starting after breakfast at 8am on our trip up to the “Kibo Hut” – our Basecamp before the Summit. Another day with 1.000m is ahead of us. 9km of “Desert ZONE” and 5hrs from Horombo to Kibo. Please don’t forget the sunscreen and wind jacket because there is no shadow at all. Views of the peak and its glaciers continued to appear, reminding us how far we have come and how far we have left to go. At the Camp you will get a hot lunch at 1.30pm and you will enjoy an early evening meal 5.30pm. Use the whole afternoon for resting and preparing your mind and body for the summit. The night will be short and we will wake you up at 11pm. Strengthened by a quick breakfast at 11.30pm we’re starting our summit at midnight. It will take us 5hrs to the “Gilman’s point”, another 45min to “Stella point” and we will reach the “Uhuru Peak” at 7am.

 HOROMBO HUT (1.000m↓; 5hrs; 3.720m; +/+/+)

From Uhuru Peak at 7am we are facing down our way to “Horombo Hut” at 3.720m. This will take us 3-4hrs down on dusty/sandy and steep ways. We recommend wearing gaiters to protect your trousers. We arrive at 11am at the Kibo Hut to rest for almost 2hrs and get lunch before going down to “Horombo Hut! We arrive at this camp around 5pm and will sign up for the last time in the camp book. Here you will get hot water for washing and dinner at 6.30pm. Tonight you will sleep like a baby – we promise you.

 HOTEL (1.841m↓; 5hrs; +/+/+)

We will start our last day trek at 7.30am because 18km is ahead of us and in total almost 2.000m going down. Your legs will be heavily strained. We recommend using your walking sticks all the way down. It’s steep and could be very slippery, especially because we will cross the forest zone again. During your way you will realize lots of running porters with a smile on their faces and music they listen to. They’re happy on their last day and arrival at home with their loved ones, too. Use the chance to realize the beautiful nature of Tanzania and the last view back to the Top of Afrika. Amazing what you did yesterday – you can be proud of yourself. Around 4pm it comes to an end. You hear many voices from the distance and you will see the Marangu Gate is close to you. Hold on for a minute and look back and say “Tumefanikiwa” – Which means: “We made it!” The last group picture is done and your guide will arrange the check out and sign out of the National park. Grab a beer and use the 1 hrs break to come down and celebrate before the bus will bring you to your hotel.
