Introduction
SIMBA CAMP (261m↑; 3-4hrs; 2.625m; +/+/+)
It’s time to meet your group for the next week. We will pick you up at your hotel around 8am. The guide will present the whole team with a heartwarming welcome and introduction of porters, the cook and the rest of the team. You will get a nice first impression through typical Tanzanian songs which follow you the whole way up to Uhuru peak. It takes us 3-4 hrs by car (passing a supermarket in the meanwhile) to get to the Nalemuru Gate (2.364m). Your guide will sign you up and arrange all payments for the National Park. Before starting our trek you will get a lunch box and softdrinks to strengthen yourself for a nice trip. Around 1pm we’re starting our trekking tour. The first day is relatively easy, allowing your body to acclimatize and enjoy the silence because this route is one of the less-traveled paths on mount kilimanjaro, starting from the northern side of the mountain near to the border of Kenya. At around 5pm you will reach the SIMBA CAMP (2.625m) and every day you’re entering your Camp you will sign up yourself into the Camp book. Your tents were already finished to lay down and rest a bit. We will prepare hot water for washing. Dinner will be around 6pm and your guide is happy to give you the briefing for your next day.
SECOND CAVE (825m↑; 4-5hrs; 3.450m; +/+/+)
Your alarm bell rings at 6.30am and we will bring you coffee/tea to your bed for waking up slowly. Hot water for washing will be ready at 7am and you can pack your luggage for the porters before going to breakfast at 7.30am. Enjoy a nice and extensive breakfast with porridge, fruits, toast, pancakes and omelet. Be ready for trekking at 8am. The second day will present you with beautiful views as you walk through moorland and begin to see the first view of Kibo Peak. The trek continues through unique landscapes offering indigenous flora and fauna, introducing you to the stunning landscape of Kilimanjaro. You will finally reach ‘Second Cave’, which is located in a sheltered valley close to Kikelewa Caves and surrounded by giant senecio plants around 1pm. Of course we will offer you hot water and lunch at around 1.30pm. The afternoon is then free to use until we will serve dinner at 6pm. After dinner you always get the briefing of your guide for the next day.
THIRD CAVE (480m↑; 3-4hrs; 3.930m; +/+/+)
Same procedure as every day: Bed Tea/Coffee at 6.30am, hot water at 7am, Breakfast at 7.30am and start of trekking at 8am. Today we are entering the “Desert Zone” and keeping it “Pole, Pole”, which means to use this day for acclimatization and reducing any risks of altitude sickness. We follow a narrow path to the craggy peaks of Mawenzi (5.148m) and will reach our goal “Third Cave” (3.930m) around noon. This camp is the last one with natural water resources, which means (only) on the next day you don’t get hot water to wash because of water limitations. At 1pm you will get hot lunch served and use the afternoon for resting. Dinner is planned around 5.30pm.
KIBO HUT + SUMMIT (790m↑; 5-6hrs; 4.720m; +/+/+)
The goal of this day is reaching the Basecamp “Kibo Hut” at 4.720m. A long day (5km) is heading in front of us. That’s why we will start early this morning at 7.30am. The steady ascend continues, soon reaching the lunar desert between Mawenzi and Kibo. The Camp itself will reach around 1pm – That’s good to rest a lot and prepare your body and mind for the night of the summit. Lunch will be ready at 1.30pm and dinner around 5.30pm. Kili-Briefing for the summit will be shared from your guide after the dinner. We will wake you up at 11pm (11.30 tea+porridge) to start at midnight the summit. It will take us 5hrs to the “Gilman’s point”, another 45min to “Stella point” and we will reach the “Uhuru Peak” at 7am.
HOROMBO (1.000m↓; 3-4hrs; 3.720m; +/+/+)
From Uhuru Peak at 7am we are facing down our way to “Horombo Hut” at 3.720m. This will take us 3-4hrs down on dusty/sandy and steep ways. We recommend wearing gaiters to protect your trousers. We arrive at 11am at the Kibo Hut to rest for almost 2hrs and get lunch before going down to “Horombo Hut! We arrive at this camp around 5pm and will sign up for the last time in the camp book. Here you will get hot water for washing and dinner at 6.30pm. Tonight you will sleep like a baby – we promise you.
GATE + HOTEL (1.841m↓; 5-6hrs; +/+/+)
We will start our last day trek at 7.30am because 18km is ahead of ua and in total almost 2.000m going down. Your legs will be heavily strained. We recommend using your walking sticks all the way down. It’s steep and could be very slippery, especially because we will cross the forest zone again. During your way you will realize lots of running porters with a smile on their faces and music they listen to. They’re happy on their last day and arrival at home with their loved ones, too. Use the chance to realize the beautiful nature of Tanzania and the last view back to the Top of Afrika. Amazing what you did yesterday – you can be proud of yourself. Around 4pm it comes to an end. You hear many voices from the distance and you will see the Marangu Gate (1.879m) is close to you. Hold on for a minute and look back and say “Tumefanikiwa” – Which means: “We made it!” The last group picture is done and your guide will arrange the check out and sign out of the National park. Grab a beer and use the 1 hrs break to come down and celebrate before the bus will bring you to your hotel.
This includes the required entrance fees to access and explore the designated national parks. The payment ensures the conservation of the parks and supports the maintenance and protection of the wildlife and natural habitat
Porters assist with carrying the luggage and equipment, making the trekking experience easier for visitors. Cooks prepare nutritious and varied meals to keep guests energized throughout the journey. Assistant guides accompany the main guide to provide extra safety, support, and personalized attention during the expedition.
A comprehensive first aid kit is included for handling minor injuries and common health issues during the trip. It ensures quick medical assistance for guests and staff in case of emergencies.
Guests receive full-board meal service as per the itinerary, covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The meals are carefully prepared to cater to the nutritional needs and preferences of the travelers, ensuring energy and comfort throughout the trip.
